January 18th 2011

Todays trip to the Riparian Preserve was a mixed bag... on the plus side I got lots of shots that I was happy with and also managed to improve on my stealth techniques, getting very close to a Dowitcher (as can be seen below). On the negative side I must have trodden, or crawled through, or put my hand in 5 or 6 different animal deposits - ranging from horse, cat, rabbit and dog. I also had the misfortune to come across a walking group who thought it would be a great idea to have a group discussion right next to me with no regard for the 40 minutes I had been stalking a particularly nervous Nuthatch.

Anyway, after a good shower the bad smells had gone and I was left with some nice images. Here is a selection from my day's work:

Anna's Humminbird

Black-necked Stilt

Dowitcher

House Finch

Neotropic Cormorant

Northern Shoveler

Osprey

White-crowned Sparrow
